Down fiber is a kind of natural renewable material. It is light and soft, and has good heat preservation performance. So it is widely used as heat preservation materials. Improving the heat preservation performance of down fiber can reduce the filling power and overcome the shortcomings of down, like bloated and clumsy. Improving the heat preservation performance of down fiber also can improve the utilization rate of down and feather. It will save resources and reduce the cost of materials. This paper aims to improve the heat preservation performance of down fiber by the way of adsorbing of different metal ions on down. And compare adsorbed with grafted Zr ions modified down fiber. The modified feather were characterized by Ultraviolet spectrophotometer, Scanning electron microscope (SEM), Thermal Gravity(TG), Flat heat preserve tester, Far infrared spectrometer, Feather volume meter and Feather turbidity meter.First, to improve the chemical reactivity, down fiber was modified by cyclodextrin. The results showed that the grafting extent of cyclodextrin is 6.67%. And the optimum concentration of cyclodextrin is 13.33g/L, the optimum concentration of citric acid is 3.33g/L, the optimum concentration of sodium hypophosphite is 2.67g/L, the optimum reaction temperature is 40℃, and the optimum reaction time is 4 hours.Second, the down fiber was modified by cyclodextrin inclusion complex and adsorbed metal ions. The results showed that the optimum process conditions of embedding PG were concluded that:the concentration of PG 3.33g/L, reaction temperature 50℃ and reaction time 1 hours. The optimum process conditions of adsorbing Cu2+ were concluded that:the concentration of Cu(NO3)2·3H2O 3.33g/L, reaction temperature 40℃, reaction time 4 hours and adjust pH to 10.0. The optimum process conditions of adsorbing Zn2+were concluded that:the concentration of ZnSO4·7H2O 4g/L, reaction temperature 60℃, reaction time 5 hours and adjust pH to 7.0-7.5. The optimum process conditions of adsorbing Zr4+ were concluded that:the concentration of ZrOCl2·8H2O 2.67g/L, reaction temperature 50℃, reaction time 4 hours and adjust pH to 10.0. The saturated adsorption capacity of metal ions is 92.14-113.68mg/g (Cu2+),57.21-70.88mg/g (Zn2+),140-188mg/g (Zr4+). And the results showed that the heat preservation rate of the down fiber with metal ions increased by 4% or so, the far infrared emissivity increased, the filling power and transparency accordance with the national standard requirements.Last, the down fiber was modified by KZrF6. The results showed that the grafting extent of zirconium ions is 117.19mg/g. And the optimum concentration of KZrF6 is 4g/L, tartaric acid to adjust pH to 2.5, the optimum reaction temperature is 25℃, and the optimum reaction time is 4 hours. And the results showed that the heat preservation rate of the down fiber with metal ions increased by 3% or so, the far infrared emissivity increased, the filling power and transparency accordance with the national standard requirements. The heat preservation rate is lower than the adsorption of modified.
