Recent years, the steel output increases rapidly in our country at the speed of 15~20 percent per year. In order to gain better economical benefits, better quality of iron concentrate is needed in iron smelting corporation.Magnetite and pyrrhotite are strong magnetic minerals. Pyrrhotite has characters such as easy for argillization and oxidization, which increases the difficulty of desulphurization, and determines the importance of flotation to desulphurization. The magnetite concentrate treated in this study is from Chaoyang Xinhua molybdenum ore. Its iron grade is 64.75% and grade of the main impurity sulfur is as high as 0.89%, which mainly exists in the form of pyrrhotite. As the sulfur grade is much higher than requirement. The goal of the topic is to decrease sulfur. In the study, H2SO4 and NaOH were used as pH regulator, CuSO4 and Na2S were used as activator, Na2CO3 and Na2SiO3 were dispersant, isobutyl xanthate was collector and 2# was used as frother. Condition tests were done to confirm optimal dasage of each reagent. It is resulted that the sulfur grade of flotation concentrate can be decreased to 0.58% and sulfur removal rate is 35.20% through one rougher and two cleanings, with 300g/t CuSO4, 100g/t Na2S,300g/t Na2Si03,600g/t isobutyl xanthate,60g/t 2# oil and pH value at 6.After the magnetite concentrate was regrinded to the fineness of 85%-0.044mm, the sulfur grade of flotation concentrate can be decreased to 0.43% and sulfur removal rate is 53.16% through one rougher and two cleanings, on the condition of 300g/t CuSO4, 100g/t Na2S,300g/t Na2Si03,400g/t butyl xanthate and 200g/t isobutyl xanthate,60g/t 2# oil and pH value at 6. It is seen that the desulphurization effect is improved. Moreover, flotation mechanism was investigated in this study, and all factors affecting the removal of pyrrhotite from magnetite concentrate.
