At present, the research on compensating reactive power using static compensation device is one of the most active areas in power electronics subject. In this thesis, the advanced compensation device - Advanced Static Var Generator C ASVG ) is studied and analyzed deeply.Firstly, the existing compensation devices are compared and the ASVG's superior performance is analyzed. In this thesis, the compensation performance of ASVG is studied according to dynamic compensation theory. Secondly, several typical control methods are summarized and their advantages and disadvantages are analyzed. In addition, the instantaneous reactive power theory and it's application to reactive power control and detection are introduced.In this thesis, current indirect control with the reversible system PI and current direct control under dq axis are studied specially and the static state anddynamic state performances of ASVG controlled by this two method are simulated respectively. The simulation results show that, compared with the indirect control, the direct control has more superior performance in current tracking speed and control property.In the end, a hardware platform based on DSP is carried out and the ?lOkvar ASVG experimental system is designed. The experiment is realized based on the current direct control and the result is analyzed.
