In smelting industry at home today, reactive power compensating aiming at smelting electric furnace is necessary because of the low power factor. The running voltage of smelting furnace is about 140 volt, and electrode current is as high as several thousands ampere. The contact technology and the control exist much difficult problem when the reactive power compensation is used to so large current. If we could develop the intelligent control device of Low Voltage Capacitance Compensating that applies to smelting furnace, we can improve the power factor, enhance the output and reduce the current drain. The social and economic benefit are all extraordinary remarkable.The compensate automatically with the smelting electric furnace is studied in this paper, adopting Siemens S7-200 PLC to control, thus improving the performance of the smelting electric furnace and the operating condition of producing , making the economic technical indicators of smelting electric furnace better. The hardware and software of the computer controls are designed.Some tests are carried to solve automatic controllers' defects. For example, we improve on software, overcome controllers' defects, advance compensation accuracy and velocity, and realize the cycle run.
