At present, energy saving and consumption reducing is a long-term strategic policy on national economic development. As a kind of most extensively used energy, electric power is an important field of national energy saving and consumption reducing. The reactive power compensation which is an important measure of saving energy by technology, can decrease the voltage loss of electric power system, reduce voltage fluctuation, improve electric power quality and reduce electric power consumption.After reviewing the basic concept of the reactive power and the essential principle of var compensation, a new kind of high-voltage intelligent var compensation control system applying to the 10KV distribution network is designed in this paper. The control system includes two parts: the intelligent controller and the PC's information management system. The controller uses MCU-AT89C55 as the control core and a real power/energy IC-CS5460A with a DSP engine as the core of the module of dada acquisition and processing. Through collecting power line's voltage and current, the power factor and reactive power are calculated. The control software integrates five sets of control strategies of var compensation and realizes auto-tracking var and auto-switching Shunt Capacitor Bank. By using a novel high performance FRAM FM24C256, the controller can store 60 days' history data and the access time is reduced. All auxiliary ICs have serial interface, and thus system stability is greatly improved. In addition, the equipment provides many capacitor banks' safeguards. The related parameters can also be changed through the keyboard conveniently. Each modules' schematic circuit diagram and software's flow charts are also presented in the paper. Finally, the anti-interference designs are performed in both software and hardware.PC's information management software implements functions which include equipment management, downloading and uploading data, data analysis and so on. The controller and PC communicate by wireless, and the wireless device's interface with them is standard RS-232.The high-voltage intelligent var compensation control system described in the paper has already been tested by experiments. It has wide application foreground and huge market potential.
