With the high-speed development of Automobile Industry, Automobile noise pollution has become the globe problem. The exhaust noise is one of the main noise sources, which comes from vehicle engines. Installation exhaust muffler is the effective method for noise reduction. This article has introduced noise reduction principles and methods, formation mechanism of vehicle exhaust noise, sorts of vehicle exhaust mufflers. This article has designed a muffler model by PROE software. After simulation by FLUENT which is one kind of CFD software, the inside situation of the muffler has been analyzed in this article, such as flow field, temperature field and pressure field etc. The performance of the muffler has been evaluated by the result of the pressure loss of it. After simulating the remodel of this muffler, some plans for remodel muffler have been introduced, which can instruct to muffler modification.A test-bed for measuring pressure loss of vehicle muffler has been set up. This test-bed was adopted a close-loop control system. Through data acquisition system, flux value of the test-bed can be acquired by collection the signals of the flux sensor. If the flux value is less than the target, control system would change the flux value by regulating the transducer. While, if the flux value has reached the target steadily, collecting the signals of pressure sensor, the pressure loss of this muffler has been acquired at last. The control program can realize two control methods, automatic and manual control. It is convenient for data storage and output. After testing the muffler by this test-bed, the result of pressure loss can tally with the simulating result.
