The world is faced with double pressure of the energy shortage and thedeterioration of the ecological environment. Biomass, as renewable clean energysources, is expected to be attention and play an increasingly important role. Cornis one of the three major crops in China, planting wide and rich. There is greatrealistic significance of improving the efficiency of energy, the ecologicalenvironment and the energy-structure through studying on combustioncharacteristics of corn straw and being used for straw-fired power generation. The laminar burning characteristics of corn-straws in the thermal test-rig ofthe self-built fixed-bed were studied and discussed. In experiment, corn straw isclassified as corn-stalk, hollow corn-stalk, flake corn-stalk, corn leaves and corncops byitscomponents. By measuring temperature inside the bed,the mass lossof the fuel changes and gas components such as O2,CO2,CO,H2 and NOwith time, combustion characteristics of test samples and characteristics of NOrelease byaltering primary air flow rate are studied. The first is to study on laminar burning characteristics of corn-stalk byaltering primary air flow rate. Combustion characteristics of the changes of thetemperature inside the bed, the mass loss of the flue and the gas concentrationswith a primary air flow rate (Gm=0.029 kg/m2·s) were analyzed in detail. Tocontrast and analyze the cases of corn-stalk with different primary air flow rate,corn-stalk quality, burning rate, the proportion of unburned carbon, combustionprofile transmission rate and the production of NO by altering primary air flowrate is studied. Then, the combustion characteristics of the different parts of corn strawwere analyzed. The cases of corn-stalk, hollow corn-stalk and flake corn-stalk inthe sameprimary air flow rate were contrasted analyzed. Andthe cases of samplef(corn leaves and corn cops) and sample g(corn-stalk, corn leaves and corn cops)by altering primary air flow rate were studied. The cases of corn-stalk, sample fand sample g with a primary air flow rate from 0.018kg/m2·to 0.034kg/m2·s werestudied.Through this experimental investigation, the laminar burning characteristics of the corn straw were gained. The results of experiment have a great importanceto design and optimal operation of an actual grate furnace. And it lays thefoundation for the further study.
