Taking Mengda 600MW direct air-cooled units in our country into consideration, in view of serious hurdles of air-cooled units available—the unfavorable influences of Ambient Wind, we tentatively proceeds to making numerical simulation research on external flow field of direct air-cooled island by using CFD software Fluent. This paper proposed the mechanism of ambient wind impacts, and the analysis on such effects of the wind generating from the boiler house afterwards, hot air re-circulation and air inverse flow on external flow field and heat exchange efficiency of air-cooled island was thus been within reach. Aiming at influences caused by ambient wind, the windshield was installed beneath the windbreak of air-cooled island. Concerning the typical wind direction, analysis on effects of different height and permeable rate of the windshield on the heat exchange efficiency was developed, resulting in proper structural parameter. Verifying the result of optimization under all wind direction conditions, investigations on the effect of air-cooled island external flow field and heat exchange efficiency was carried out, which provide theoretical basis for windshield reforming of direct air-cooled condensers.
