Studies On Descriptors And Data Standard For Litchi (Litchi Chinensis Sonn.)

Litchi ( Litchi chinensis Sonn.) was originated in China and Vietnam and has beenplanting in China for over 2000 years. Litchi was spread abroad from china in 1775, the first station is India, then to from India to Bengal. In 200 years, litchi was spread to 36 countries all over 5 continents. At present, litchi was distributed between 10°-30° north latitude and 10°-30° south latitude. The general plating area is about 800 thousand acres and the general yield is about 1500 to 2000 thousand tons all over the world. Among these, there are 600 thousand acres and 1000 to 1500 thousand tons in China , occupying 75% and 70% in the world respectively.There arc very abundant germplasm of litchi in China. At present, through decades of investigating, collecting, and coordinating, there are 260 accessions germplasm of litchi by recorded in China, and 159 accessions are preserved in Litchi Gene Bank of National Fruit Tree Germplasm which is in Guangzhou.Although there are a plenty of investigation on litchi germplasm at home and abroad, but due to the multiformity and complexity, there is no general description criterion and data standard of litchi germplasm between different institutes. So it is important to formulate a uniform criterion for the collecting, coordinating, preserving and appraising of litchi germplasm. And it is important to build up a uniform databank and share platform.The description criterion of litchi germplasm regulates the descriptors and the grading standard of litchi germplasm, in order to provide a standard coordinating and digital expression. The data standard of litchi germplasm is also called as data dictionary which regulates the name, the type, the length, the decimal digits and the code of various descriptors of litchi germplasm, in order to build up a uniform databank of litchi germplasm. The data description criterion of litchi germplasm regulates the content and methods of data collecting of litchi germplasm. So the data obtained are systematic, comparable and reliable.The formulation of the description criterion of litchi germplasm is in favor of the integration of the litchi germplasm all over the country; in favor of the basic work of the canonical collecting, coordinating and preserving of litchi germplasm; in favor of creating a good sharing environment; in favor of the effective protection and utilization of litchi germplasm; in favor of dredging up the potential economic, social and ecological value; in favor of promoting the jumping development of litchi germplasm.
