Objective:To investigate status of burns distribution of infants in hospital inChenzhou city and explore the burns epidemic characteristics of the newborns. Fromthe results, we could take measurements to keep infants away from burns.Materials and methods: Fifty infants (thirty boys and twenty girls) sufferedburns were recruited from the first people’s hospital in Chen Zhou city in Dec.2008to Dec.2012. There were several causes of burns including hot water, hot liquid, fire,electricity, chemical burns. We ranged the degree of burn to minor, moderate, severeand the site of harm happened to indoor, outdoor. The infants were divided into threegroups from ages (the first group:0-3months old; the second group;4-6months old;the third group:7-12months old). All factors influencing the burns of infants werein taken to the analysis (including sex, age, season et al.).Results: The highest burn injury ratio was happened at7-12months old infants.The burns caused Hydrothermal, flame, other reason accounted for56%,36%, and8%respectively. The injury degree of burns of minor, moderate, severe wereaccounted for14%,58%,14%respectively. Most burns (92%) occurred in indoorand48%were happened at drawing room.70%accidents occurred in daytime.Conclusion: The burns epidemic characteristics of the newborns were similarwith the foreign and domestic researches.7-12months old infants were mostvulnerable hurt by burns. Hydrothermal scald was the main cause of burns in infants,and mild-to-moderate was the frequency type.
