| Objective:Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) is a kind of common and frequently-occurring chronic respiratory disease, and most of the patients are over the age of 40. The morbidity and the mortality of COPD are high, and both of them have a rising trend year by year. As the population structure aging and environmental air pollution increasing, COPD brings huge economic burden to the patients, their families and the society. The research of traditional Chinese medicine and western medicine on the disease is more and more in recent years. Western medicine treatment of COPD, which is mainly given bronchodilators corticosteroids, and antibiotics, costs higher and often arises larger side effects. However, traditional Chinese medicine treatment of COPD has significant advantages in terms of improving the symptoms of the patients, improving the quality of life and reducing the times of acute exacerbation. Professor Yang Daowen, who learned from the second session of The Chinese Medicine Master professor Chao Enxiang, has accumulated rich experience in the diagnosis and treatment of COPD during more than twenty years of the clinical work. The purpose of this paper is not only to summarize professor Yang Daowen’s theory of traditional Chinese medicine and treatment experience on COPD, but also to provide a new thought for Chinese medicine treatment of this disease. Methods:Through collecting Professor Yang’s prescriptions in the treatment of patients of COPD, to discuss and summarize Professor Yang’s experience and treatment characteristics of this disease. Results:During more than twenty years of the clinical work, Professor Yang believes that the basic pathogenesis of COPD is deficiency in origin and excess in superficiality. He puts forward the TCM treatment should combine treatment based on syndrome differentiation with treatment based on pathogenesis differentiation. Therefore, according to the basic pathogenesis of COPD which is deficiency in origin and excess in superficiality, Professor Yang believes that treatment should support health and dispel evil. Treatment of COPD includes supplying lung and strengthening spleen, regulating liver and nourishing kidney, invigorating the circulation of blood and disinhibitting water, relieving cough and reducing sputum. What’s more, dispelling the wind, declining stomach and stabling mind are also uesful to the treatment of COPD. All these methods have obtained good therapeutic effect in clinic. Conclusions:As the common and frequently-occurring chronic respiratory disease, the treatment of COPD should start from the lung, spleen and kidney, as well as invigorating the circulation of blood and disinhibitting water. In addition to the lung, spleen and kidney, Professor Yang believes that liver function which is normal or not is closely related to the disease onset and exacerbation or not. At the same time, phlegm, blood stasis, water, all as a pathological factors and as apathological product, run through the disease. The treatment of COPD should think highly of supplying lung and spleen, pay attention to regulating liver and dispelling the wind, attach importance to declining stomach and lung, and not forget to supplement the kidney, while reducing sputum, invigorating the circulation of blood and disinhibitting water run through the treatment of COPD. Thus the clinical curative effect is distinct. It provides a new thought for Chinese medicine in the treatment of COPD. |
