The Spiraea is a sort of beautiful ornamental plants with colorful flowers and strong ecological adaptability. China is rich in Spiraea species distribution. With more than 70 species, it is one of polarizing centers of Spiraea in the world. But researches of the resources of Spiraea have been developed few so far in China and it causes the application of Spiraea in landscape is very limited. In view of the fact, the studies were made on the resources of Spiraea which including the natural distribution and the application in landscape in Beijing China. Based on the systematic investigation of the species in detail, the cut-flower selection was studied on the S. trilobata, S. dasyantha, S. salicifolia etc and the cut-flower selection standard was preliminary made. Based on the researches of Spiraea resources and summarization of their application forms in landscape, this paper also analyses the existent problem and proposals, which hope to provide the theoretical basis for choosing and application of Spiraea. The main results were as follows:1. According to the investigation, 7 species and 3 varieties of Spiraea were surveyed, they were S. trilobata, S. var. pubescens, S. pubescens, S. dasyantha, S. blumei, S. fritschiana, S. var. angulata, S. var. parvifolia, S. elegans, and S. salicifolia. The natural distribution of S. elegans and S. blumei were very small and needed protected emergencily.2. The cut-flower selection was studied on 6 Spiraea species with 3 different vase solutions. The results indicated that the vase-life was prolonged against to the water by the solution A (l%sugar+50ppm8-HQ) and solution B (1%sugar+l%enthanol+50ppm8-HQ). The cut-flower selection standard was preliminary made and the S. dasyantha, S. salicifolia, S. japonica, S.fritschiana had big potential of cut-flowers which the vase-life was about 10d.3. The application of Spiraea in landscape was vary limited through the investigation. The S. × bumalda 'Goldmound', S. japonica, and S. thunbergii were common and the application form wasunitary. The objective of this study is to provide scientific bases for protection and usage of geneticresources, cut flower selection, and application in landscape in Spiraea.
