Objective As all knows the side-effect of CS on mother and children, but the rate of Cesarean Section is increasing in recent years. Fetal distress is the first reason on CS. Doppler velocimetry has been used in assessing fetus for many years, but still not be used during labor. The aim of our study was to compare the umbilical blood flow during contraction and intermission in latent period, find out the influence of uterine contraction, and evaluate the result of this method in predicting fetal distress. Methods The blood flow of umbilical artery were examined in 47 normal pregnancies in latent period by Color Doppler Ultrasonic during contraction and intermission respectively .Results Doppler sonography of the fetal umbilical artery in 33cases did not show any abnormality , and the value of S/D isn't normal in other 14 cases (S/D>2.7). Except MAX, there are notable differences of the umbilical blood flow and fetal distress between two groups. In abnormal group, the difference of the drop in MEN is much higher thanMAX.Conclusion Doppler ultrasonic can be used in latent period as ascreen test to predict the fetus distress.
