Objective 'lo study the role of leptin in the l1ormal pregnancy and it's effect on fetalgrowth. At tlle sa111e time, to study the role of leptin in tl1e gel1esis of pregnancy inducedhypertensiol1 (l'IH).Methods "l.l1e levels of leptin were dcterl11i11ed in the l11aterllal veil1 blood al1d tl1eumbilical blood of 64 patients. Tlle norn1al pregl1ant group have 33 women, the PIHgroup have 3I wolnen. The levels of leptil1 were 111easured by means ofradiOInInunoassay (RlA). 1'he results al1d correlatiOI1s between tl1e seru1n leptin levelsand blood pressure, BMI at term, Fat%, total mass befOre pregnancy, weight gain andneollatal birtl1 weigl1t wrer analyzed by the correlative analysis. Results l. 'l'Ile total n1ass befOre pregnallcy, Fat%, BMl at tcrnl and weight gain of thenormal pregl1allt wonlen have no sigl1ificantly statistical differel1ce with those of PIH.&lf t ra 4+ k4 Lh + 4{iit kThe neonatal birtll weigI1t of the two groLlps l1ave no difference too. 'l11e blood pressureof the PlH women were l1igher than those of the l1orlnal pregnant won1en.2. The levels of serum leptin and cord leptin in the normal pregnal1t womel1 were (20.7li6.44)ng/ml, al1d (8.50 f 3.68)ng/n1l respectively. Tl1e leveIs of seruIl1 of leptin werepositively correlated with the total lnass before pregnancy, Fat%, BMl at term andweight gain. 1'l1e seruln leptin IeveIs have no corre1ations witl1 age, weeks and birthweight. 'l'he levels of serul11 leptin were lligher than cord lepti11. Neonatal birtl1 weightsand BMl were positively correlated with tl1e levels of ulnbilical blood leptin.3. There wel'e 2l l1lale newborns and l2 femaIe newborns. 'I11e birth weigl1t and cordleptin levels of 111ale newborns were (3523.8 l f 283 .56)g, (8. l4 1 3.93)l1g/ml. Tlle birthweigl1t and cord leptill IeveIs of fbl11aIe llewborl1s were (3325 1334.05)g, (9.l3 13.24)ng/n1l. Con1pare the results, there x'!ere no signilicant dil1brence.4. (l) 1'1le levels of serul1l leptin il1 tl1e PlIl wo11]ell tl1e were l1igl]er than those of tl1enormal pregl1a11t wolnen (P<0.05). but there were no diIIbrellce between tlleir cordleptin levels. (2) "rl1ere were no signilical1tly statistical differel1ce il1 tl1e levels of serumleptin betweell the l11iId patients with PlIl (I 8.8 l f 3.29)ng/n1l atld tlle normal pregnalltgroup (P>0.05). 'l'he levels of serum leptin il1 the moderate (22.35 15.27)l1g/lnl and intlle severe (26.49i4.30)11g/ml patie11ts witlI I,IIl wre l1igl1er tllal1 tllose in tlle 1nildpatients with l,lH (Pwt0.05) and the norl11al pregnant group (P<0.05). (3) There werepositive correlatiol1s between SBl', DBl', AMP and the serun1 leptin levels of PIfl. (4)The birth weigl1t and llMl were positively correlated witI1 the IeveIs of umbiIical bloodleptin.5. By muItiple lillear regression analysis Ibr indepcl1deIlt variables on serum leptinlevels, the BMl at terl11 and Fat% were the n1ain thctors which allbct the levels of serum1eptin.6Conclusion l. Serum leptin levels rised in pregnant woman. lt may continbute toincrease of body fat in pregnant womel1.2. The serulll leptin ill preg11allt wolllcIl aIld tl1e cord leptin were two different systelns, leptin could prolnote lhtel growth.3. The il1creased serul11 leptil1 1evels l11ay plays a role il1 tlle occurrence anddevelopment of PIl1.
