Objective: To probe into the therapeutic effect of the combined therapy on constipation of rectocele type with double-pursed closing operation, taking Chinese herbs according to syndrome differentiation and behavior adjustment. Methods: All the 30 selected cases were diagnosed middle or severe rectocele through defecography, and treated with the above combined therapy. The symptoms, signs and auxiliary examination before and after the treatment were observed and analyzed respectively. Results: The total therapeutic effect is 96. 7% and the complications rarely occur. It shows that this kind of treatment has a better effect than the documents reported. After treatment the symptoms, signs and auxiliary examination improved obviously (P<0.01). Conclusion: Double-pursed closing operation can repair the weak area and stop the vicious circulation. Taking Chinese herbs can improve patients' integral condition. Behavior adjustment can prevent a part of causes for constipation. The treatment is according to the concept of wholism and 'the theory of treating both the principal and subordinate aspects in TCM. With good clinical effect, this combined therapy is fit for constipation of rectocele type.
