Objective To investigate the protein expression of the tumor suppressor gene PTEN and P53 gene and their possible roles in the development and progression of bladder transitional cell carcinoma. Methods Immunohistochemical method was used in detecting PTEN and P53 in 69 BTCC and 10 normal bladder tissue. The expression of diversity of PTEN and P53 ,between normal bladder tissue and BTCC tissue of various pathological type and stage ,were closely studied.Result High expression of PTEN was found in all normal bladder tissues. The positive expression rate of PTEN and P53 gene in BTCC were 66.7% and 56.5% respectively. Significant differences existed in the expression of both tumor suppressor genes between carcinomas form different pathological grades and clinical stages (P< 0.05).There is a significant correlation between PTEN and P53 gene expression.Conclusion1, The expression of PTEN was decreased in BTCC with pathologic grade and clinical stage.2, The expression of P53 was increased in BTCC with depth of tumor invasion and clinical grade .3, Expression of PTEN and P53 gene may be regulated by each other.4, The abnormal expresions of PTEN and P53 gene might play animportant role in the malignant progression of BTCC .
