Objective To study the lipid peroxidation and antioxidant levels (SOD GSH-PX) of different dose lipid emulsion on newborns with hypoxic-ischemic encephalopathy (HIE) and the effect to NBNA. Detect the appropriate dose and time to use lipid emulsion on newborns with HIE.Methods (1) fouty-three newborns with hypoxic-ischemic encephalopathy (middle degree), divided into three groups:group A, B (fifteen newborns), control group(thirteen newborns). (2) Gived same support therapy to each group, gived each group feeding from the second day; gived group A partial PN three days (contain lipid emulsion 2g/kg d); give group B partial PN three days (contain lipid emulsion 1g/ kg d); give control group glucose. (3) Serum MDAA, SOD, GSH-PX concentrations were measured before the PN therapy and each time after PN therapy. Measured same indexs in corresponding times on control group.(4) Each group performed NBNA on the seventh to teenth day. Results (1) MDA concentrations in therapy group after using PN were increased than that in control group, and related to the dose of lipid emulsion. MDA concentrations were increased significantly after using lipid emulsion 2g/kg d(P<0.01). there were no siginificant changes after using lipid emulsion 1g/kg d (P>0.05). There were significantly different between group A, B (P<0.05). The changes of SOD. GSH-PX were reversed. (2) It had a variated process in HIE without using PN of MDA concentrations. MDA was the highest on the second day after born, and then reduced significantly day by day (P<0.01). The changes of SOD, GSH-PX were reversed. (3) The grades of NBNA in each group had no siginiflcantly different (P>0.05).Conclusions (1) MDA concentrations in therapy group after using PN were increased than that in control group, and related to the dose of lipid emulsion. The dose of 1 g/kg d of lipid emulsion was safe on HIE newborns. (2)We must avoid using lipid emulsion in fastigium on HIE newborns, using it after the second day was suitable. (3) The NBNA grade would not affected after using PN.
