Objective To investigate the effect of traditional Chinese medicine on VEGF protein expression and to elucidate the VEGF related to the pathology process after reperfusion of transiently ischemic lesion in rat. Methods Immunohistochemical and HE technique was used to examine expression of VEGF protein and MVD at 1d to 7d after reprefusion of transiently incomplete forebrain ischemia in rat hippo campns and to object the effect of traditional Chinese medicine on MVD and VEGF protein. Results MVD in normal saline group declined obviously at 3 days and in traditional Chinese medicine group MVD began to decline at 3 days, and reduced olviously at 7 days. The results of immunohistochemical showed that the ischemiareperfudion group VEGF protein express was obviously higher compared with the control group and highly at 3 days and began to decline at 7 days. In traditional Chinese medicine group the VEGF express was obriously higher than the nomal saline group at each of the time points. Conclusions These findings suggest that induction ofVEGF is up-regulated by ischemia.VEGF is essential for the proliferation, migration, regeneration of the Vascular endothelial cells traditional Chinese medicine used to treat the acute cerebrd ischemia can increase the express of VEGF protein and can decreased the disapperance of the cupillary. This may be the one of the mechanisms that traditional Chinese medicine nesist to the injure of ischemia reperfusion.
