| Objective TO study the clinical and radiological features and the therapeutic efficacy of intracranial cavernous hemangiomas. Methods the data from 83 patients with intracranial CHs surgically treated by authors from January 1995 to February 2003 were analyzed retrospectively and a review of relevant literature was conducted. Results The patients were divided into 2 groups. Group I (n=66)represents those cavernous hemangiomas located in intra-axially ,including 10 cases whose lesions located in brain-stem . In this group, total tumor removal was achieved in all cases. Group II (n=17)pointed to the tumors located in extra-axially. In this group, total tumor removal was achieved in 10 cases, incomplete tumor removal in 6 cases, and tumor biopsy in 1 case. Conclusions CT and MRI were major preoperative diagnostic modalities. Microsurgical treatment is the first choice for those patients with intracranial CHs, radiosurgery or conventional radiotherapy serve as a supplemental measure. |
