Objective To elevate the diagnostic value of serum CA125 in patients with advanced ovarian cancer, we analysis factors influencing the level of serum CA125.Methods: 42 patients with advanced ovarian cancer were selected, and their chief complains were abdominal distention and increasing abdomen circumference. Patients all received operations and their medical histories were recorded by special persons. The level of serum CA125, positive rate of cancer cells in ascitic fluid and the type of pathology were all recorded. Results: 13 patients with low level serum CA125 (CA125 300u/ml)were included in group L and 20 patients with high level serum CA125 (CA125 >300u/ml) were included in group H. In group L, there are 5 patients (27.8%)who complained of abdominal distention and increasing abdomen circumference for shorter period (<1 week), but in group H, there are only 1 patients (5%). The difference is significant(P<0.05). All the patients had highpositive rate of cancer cells in ascitic fluid. In group L, 53.8% patients had omentum contracture because of metastasis, which is slightly higher than that in group H(P>0. 05). The constructions of pathologic types were different between patients with different level of serum CA125. In group L, the percentage of mucous cystoadenocarcinoma is especially high. Conclusion: During the period of diagnosis, we should combine the level of serum CA125 with patients' specific conditions, such as the complaints, the condition of metastasis on omentum and the type of pathology.
