| Objective To investigate the cause of pericardial effusion and promotethe diagnosis process and treatment.Methods Retrospective analysis of 152 cases of pericardial effusionfrom Jan, 1995 to May, 2003.Results 128 cases (84.21%) were correctly diagnosed. Tumor (23.68%)was the most common cause and tuberculosis (21.71%) was the second.While 24 cases (15.79%) remained elusive.Conclusion The main cause of pericardial effusion was tumor andtuberculosis followed by. The other causes become more extensive bythe development of diagnosis technology. Particularly as a complicationof modern treatments such as cardiac surgery, percutaneous interventions,and radiation therapy , the incidence of pericardial effusion has increased. The tentative anti-tuberculosis therapy is helpful to the diagnose of cause after excluding malignancy tumorous disease and other common causes. In uncomplicated case NSAIDS with the addition of colchicine can decrease the incidence of chronic relapsing pericarditis. |
