Hydroxyapatite has excellent biocompatibility and bioactivity, Titanium and titanium alloy have been widely applied in orthopaedics and dentistry due to their excellent mechanics properties and biocompatibility. The materials possessing the advantages of both titanium and HA have been hot-topic in recent years. The "composite electrodeposition-eletrodeposition" two-step method to form HA-Ti/HA composite coatings in calcium-phosphate electrolyte with titanium powder has been investigated first in this thesis. The influence of the coating technique conditions on the content of Ti particulates in the coatings were studied and the microstructure, phase constitutes, morphology, thermostability characteristic, adhesion strength and anticorroaon characteristic of the composite coatings were studied too. Finally, SBF test and cell culture in vitro were carried out to evaluate the biological properties of HA-Ti/HA composite coatings. The results indicate that the HA-Ti/HA composite coatings were uniform and dense, and the outer coatings were pure HA and the inner were HA-Ti composite coatings by the two-step method of "composite electrodeposition-eletrodeposition". The adhesion strength between the coatings and substrates was high to 21.2 MPa and the data was triple of the pure HA, and the HA-Ti/HA composite coatings had better anticorrosion characteristics than the pure HA coatings. Test in simulated body fluid (SBF) and cell culture test in vitro indicated that the coatings possessed goodbiological properties.
