Objective To investigate the change of serum prolactin(PRL) and serum uric acid(UA) in pregnancy induced hypertension(PIH), as well as reveal their correlation and the valuation to predict perinatal outcome. Methods Maternal serum prolactin and serum uric acid were examined in 69 pregnant women complicated by PIH(mild PIH n=31, moderate and severe PIH n=38) and normal pregnant women as control(n=33) at 36-40 weeks gestation. At the same time, to observe perinatal outcome. Results The serum uric acid levels were significantly higher in moderate and severe PIH(323.52±88. 37) than in mild PIH(270.19± 72.32) and normal pregnant women(239.85 ±62.02) (p<0.05). There were no significant difference (p>0.05) in serum uric acid levels between normal pregnant women and mild PIH. The serum prolactin level in moderate and severe PIH was the highest among three groups, but there was only a significant difference (p<0.05) between control group and moderate and severe PIH group. There was no significant correlation between serum prolactin level and serum uric acid level, but they were only inferior related to the infant weight.(The former r=0.30,p<0.05; the later r= -0.29,p<0.05).Conclusion Serum prolatin showed a low level. On the contray, serum uric acid showed a high level in moderate and severe PIH,But there was no significant correlation between serum prolactin level and serum uric acid level. Examination of serum uric acid not only apts to estimate PIH, but also has some prognostic value.
