Objective: To find out the effect of Matrix MetallProtinase and Tissue Inhibitors of Metalloproteinase on the pathogenesis of hemangiomas in infants and children and vascular malformation by examining the expression of Matrix MetallProtinase-2 and Tissue Inhibitors of Metalloproteinase-2 .Methods: Fresh operative specimens were collected and divided into 4 groups(including 50 cases of proliferating phase, 50 cases of involuting phase and 50 cases of vascular malformation and 20 cases of normal skin). After being examined the expression of Matrix MetallProtinase-2 and Tissue Inhibitors of Metalloproteinase-2 protein with S-P immunohistochemical technique on microvascular endothelial cells in each groups , the positive express rates of Matrix MetallProtinase-2 and Tissue Inhibitors of Metalloproteinase-2 protein are qualitatively analyzed .Results: The positive expression rates of Matrix MetallProtinase-2 protein in the cases of proliferating groups, involuting group , vascular malformation group and normal skin group were respectively 32%,12%,8%,5%. The positive expression rates of Matrix MetallProtinase-2 protein in the cases of proliferating group were significantly higher than those in involuting group and vascular malformation group and normal skin group (P<0.05). Its difference was significant. The positive expression rates of Tissue Inhibitors of Metalloproteinase-2 protein in the cases of proliferating group, involuting group , vascular malformation group and normal skin group involuting group were respectively10%,28%,6%,5%. The positive expression rates of Tissue Inhibitors of Metalloproteinase-2 protein in the cases of involuting groups were significantly higher than those in proliferating group and vascular malformation groups and normal skin group (P<0.05). Its difference was significant. Conclusions: Matrix MetallProtinase-2 and Tissue Inhibitors of Metalloproteinase-2 may play an important role in the pathogenesis of hemangiomas through angiogenesis. They may have no effect on vascular malformation and normal skin...
