Objective: In order to define the clinic value of Tissue Doppler Imaging (TDI), we used TDI technic to compare the diastolic and systolic motion velocities of lefr ventricular septum and lateral wall before and after being treated with β-blockade. Methods: 17 patients with hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (HMC) and 23 with essential hypertension (EH) accompanying by left venbtricular hypertrophy were enrolled in our study. By using TDI, we measured the peak systolic(Sm), peak eariy diastolic(Em), peak end diastolic motion velocity(Am) and Em/Am of left ventricular septum at mitral valve level, lateral wall and posterior wall individually before and after being treated with metoprolol (2mg/kg/d). Results: Diastolic function was significantly increased after being treated with three months motoprolol in both HMC and EH patients. Em of septum was significantlY increased and Am was greatly decreased in HMC patients. Whereas Em was obviously increased, Am was decreased, and Em/Am was increased significantly of left ventricle in EH patients. Conclusion: TDI is valuable in diagnose of the diastolic function improvement treated with motoprolol in patients with hypertrophic heart.
