| Objective: Vascular dementia(VaD) is another common cause of dementia besides Alzhiemer's disease(AD) in the world, and it is known that patients suffering from VaD appproximately account for 10 to 50 percent of all dementia patients. With the old people's getting more and more today, more attention is paid to the study of VaD in the world. The cause of this disease is still uncertain up to now. Most scholars believe that the occurrence of this disease is connected with Hypertension, Diabetes, hyperlipemia and smoking, etc. The occurrence ratio is often connected with the region,quantity and frequency of cerebral infarction. Western medicine treats it with ameliorating cellular metabolism of the brain and the blood circulation in brain such as Cerebrolysin, Hyderegine, Piracetam, and Nicergoline, and so on. However, the curative effect of them is often uncertain and after using most of them for a long time, the side-effect emerges constantly. The patient cannot endure and the recurrence ratio is still high now. Traditional chinese medicine has accumulated abundant experience at the treatment of VaD. According to its clinical manifestation, it is attributed to the category of "Dai Bing","forgetfulness","dementia". My tutor, professor Liu Ya-xian synthesized large quantity of cases from the long time of clinidal practice, believes that the occurrence of this disease is due to many factors: mainly such as the Kidney Qi and marrow sea insufficient, phlegm silt blocking, qingqiaobuli, etc . On the basis of these theories, combined modern medical advances, professor Liu raised the program of supporting the the essence of kidney ,benefiting the marrow sea, removing phlegm and blood stasis. Chinese compound Recipe Dishengzhu was the product of these theories. Through the clinical using, the curative effect was remarkable. In this study, the changes about the items including Hemorheology, the curative effect and dementia rating scale(DRS) of patients suffering from VaD , mouse models behaviors under repeated cerebral ischemic reperfusion condition, mouse models' gasp time, brain index, relative histology and biochemical indices were observed. The objective is to make an inquiry into the curative VaD mechanism of Chinese compound Recipe Dishengzhu.Methods: 62 patients suffering from VaD in the clinical part were chosen. All of them were according with the diagnostic criteria formulated by Traditional chinese medical association in 2001, these patients were divided into two groups randomly. The therapy group is treated by Dishengzhu, cerebrolysin and cytidine diphosphate choline; the control group is only treated by the same western medicine. Course of treatment was both 3 weeks. The two groups had no differences at sex, age, brain CT, course and classification of diagnosis. The changes about the items including Hemorheology, the curative effect, dementia rating scale(DRS), and the lipoprotein in blood before and after treatment for both groups were observed. 80 healthy and cleaning kunming mouses weighed 20-22 grams are chosen in the experimental part, all of them are male. They are divided into 7 groups randomly including the normal control group; the model control group; the Dishengzhu high, average and low dosage group; the Hyderegine group; the pseudo-operation group. Except the pseudo-operation group and the normal control group, the other groups should prepare the VaD models. The methods as follows: Little mouses were anesthetized with 10% urethane injected into abdominal cavity , faced upward and fixed on the operating table. Then the experimenter disinfected their neck skin with 75% alcohol, cutting off the middle skin of the neck and getting blunt separation of both common carotid arteries and the companion nerve. At the same time occluding both common carotid arteries with the artery binder for 20 minutes, then loosen the artery binder to resume blood flow for 20 minutes.
