Medical sciences in the 21st century have developed from the initial biological stage to an integrated, comprehensive ones characterized by the model of biomedicine, social medicine, and psychological medicine. Efforts for several decades in the advanced American and European countries have resulted in the development and successful spread of the new medical idea characterized by general medicine as the core content and general health and care of community, family and individuals as the center, resulting in the provision of consistent, convenient, comprehensive and responsible general/family practice. In the past few years, with the introduction of the research achievements from the local research units into the military medical colleges of the Chinese People's Liberation Army (PLA), studies at different levels and ranges on the community doctor have been conducted in military medical colleges: setup of some related courses and reform of some related contents of the courses. However, due to the restriction and limitation of conventional educational model and schooling system of the army, as a matter of fact, no studies on the training model of community doctor have been conducted in military medical colleges. The army is a special community system in the social classes, so the characteristics of the study subjects are not the same as the ones studied by social medicine. In military areas, the special characteristics of individual constitution, disease spectrum, and working environment require different knowledge structure, service range, working approaches, and individual qualities of doctors serving for the army from those of the community doctors. Particularly, based on "ensuring the combat strength of the army" and how to meet the requirements of the officers and soldiers of the military basic units, we explored a set of training model which with special characteristics specially for serving for the army, which is called the training model for military community doctor. This training model changes fundamentally the situation that the trainees in clinical medicine in current military medical colleges can not adapt to the requirements of the social development, nor the requirementsof the model of biomedicine, psychological medicine, and social medicine. The training model established in our study facilitates the applied studies of development of health care of PLA by emphasizing the reforms of prevention, treatment, and health care. In order to train medical personnel with high professional level who can meet the requirements of the military basic units, guarantee the mental and physical health of personnel of the military basic units, accomplish successfully the logistics support at peace and war time, we conducted the study of the training model of military community doctor of the Armed Police Forces with the study range limited to the fourth-year cadets of clinical medicine in the Medical College of the Armed Police Forces.Part I: Construction of the basic theory of the training model for military community doctor of the armed police forces. Based on the related literatures, we explicated the introduction of concept of general practice and the theoretical contents, compared and summarized the experiences in the training of doctors of general practice in China and foreign countries, analyzed the related questions on the spread of general practice education in the army, and put forward the related concepts such as "military community doctor", and "military community medicine"Pat II: Investigation and analysis of the current health care in the basic units of the armed police forces.
