ObjectiveThe purpose of this study is to assess the level of quality of life (QOL) among military personnel of Chinese people's Armed Police Forces of Guangdong Province (including the old soldiers with at least two years, the petty officers, officers and the students), to find out the main factors influencing their QOL, to reveal effects of sociological factors, personality, coping styles, social supports, and life events on their QOL, and thus to provide basis and guidance for the formulation of effective intervening strategies to improve their QOL, advance their adaptability in the armed police forces, and to ensure the battle effectiveness for the Chinese People's Armed Police Forces of Guangdong Province. MethodsBy random group sampling, 1283 male military personnel with a mean age of 21.23±3.09 years in the Chinese people's Armed Police Forces of Guangdong Province were investigated during the period from January to April, 2005. Among 1283 collected questionnaires, 1170 were effective with an effective rate of 91.19%. There were 349 stationed in Shaoguan and 820 in Guangzhou (including 332 students). And there were 40 officers, 260 petty officers, 538 soldiers, and 332 students.The questionnaire was composed of WHOQOL-BREF, Eysneck Personality Questionnaire (EPQ), Simplified Coping Style Questionnaire (SCSQ), Perceived Social Support Scale (PSSS), and Life Event Scale (LES).
