Objective: To study the effects of Sorbaria sorbifolia aqueous extract in the S180 sarcomas transplanted subcutaneously in KM(kunming) mice and the probably mechanism. Methods: The S180 sarcomas was transplanted in 60 KM mice, then they were divided randomly into 5 groups to receive different treatment(high, medium and low dose group of Sorbaria sorbifolia aqueous extract, cyclophosphamide group, control group). Then ten days later, execute the mice. Tumor and body weight. The weight of spleen and thymus were detected respectively, the inhibition ratios of the tumor weight, the spleen index and thymus index were calculated out, the activities of NK cell and the contents of TNF- α, IL-2 in serum were detected. And the expression levels of VEGF and Ang-1 were assayed with RT-PCR and Western blot. Results: The aqueous extract of Sorbaria sorbifolia could increase the levels of the inhibition ratios of the tumor weight and the spleen index and thymus index in mice. The activity of NK cell and the contents of TNF- α, IL-2 in serum were significantly higher than that of control group((P<0.05). It also could markly downregulate the expression of VEGF gene, compared with control group (P<0.05). Yet the expression of Ang-1 protein has no remarkable differences in each group. Conclusions: It suggests that the aqueous extract of Sorbaria sorbifolia has a marked inhibitory effect in the S180 sarcomas transplanted subcutaneously in KM(kunming) mice .The mechanism maybe related with inhibiting the expression of VEGF and improve immune funtion.
