Objective:To study the reliability and the value of curved planar reformatted(CPR) CT of the facial nerve canal. Method:20 adult head cadavers with 40 sides tempotal bone were examined by CT and curved planar reformatted,they were anatomized.The length,diameter and the two angles were measured both on the image of CPR and cadavers,as well as the distance between the facialcanal and the landmarks,and the course and aberrance of the facial nerve canal were investigated. Result:(1)The images of CPR could intuitionistic delineate the entirely journey of the facial nerve canal in one image,and could clearly delineate the modality,course and the canal wall;(2)The images of CPR could accurately measure the length,diameter and the angles of the second geniculation,and the sagittal, coronary of CPR could accurately measure the angles of the first geniculation,as well as did the anatomy(P > 0.05); (3) The total cases of variation of the facial nerve canal was 34, Prevalence was 85%, 23 sides were aberranted,14 sides were dehiscent, 3 sides were partial expansive,2 sides were bifurcate, the images of CPR could accurately reveal and measure the dehiscent of the horizontal,vertical segment and the expanse.the axial and coronary of CPR were superexcellent at the the dehiscent of the first geniculation. especially the axial CPR. The images of CPR could accurately and intuitionisticly reveal the aberrance with angle. (4) The lateral semicircular canal was displayed on the images of axial CPR,the shortest distance between the facial canal and the lateral semicircular canal was 1.74 + 0.29 mm ,and the second geniculation was 2.47 + 0.51 mm ; The configuration of the fossa of the short process of the incus was similar with anatomy on the sagittal of CPR,the distance was 2.88 + 0.41 mm;The sigmoidsinus was displayed on the conory of CPR, and the diatance was 8.97 + 2.72 mm mm,the outcom of measurement as well as did the anatomy(P > 0.05). Clusion:The CPR of the high resolution computed tomography wae a superexcellent method to study the radioanatomy of the facial nerve canal, and can replace the anatomical measurement and modality observation of the facial canal, and can exactly measure the distance between the surgical landmarks and facial nerve canal, can be favorable to decrease facial neve hurting.
