| Objective: To evaluate multislice helical CT multiplanar reformation in displaying facial nerve canal and in diagnosing facial paralysis. Materials and Methods Multslice CT with multiplanar reformation (MPR) and curved planar reformation(CPR) were performed in 43 cases. Each segment of facial nerve canal on CPR and MPR was separately measured. Results Of 43 cases,1 patient was showed with large jugular bulb,1 patient with congenital abnormality, 14 patients with chronic otitis media. 2.Each segment of facial nerve canal can be displayed clearly. CPR could display bilateral facial nerve canals in one image. The anatomic data of facial nerve canals obtained from MPR were essentially in agreement with CPR, but some were not. Among 13 patients with facial paralysis, Only 1 patient was detected with chronic otitis media. The others were normal. There was no significant difference in anatomic data between suffering side and healthy side of patients with facial paralysis(P>0.05). Conclusion Multislice helical CT CPR and MPR are ideal method for study of imaging anatomy of facial nerve canal, providing clinicians with valuable information concerning anatomic variations, congenital malformations, trauma, etc, of facial nerve canal and syndrome differentiation of traditional Chinese medicine to facial paralysis. |
