Objective To explore the amplification of c-erbB-2 oncogene in gastric carcinoma and its association with clinical pathology. Methods c-erbB-2 oncogene amplification was detected by differental polymerase chain reaction in 47 cases of gastric carcinoma. Results (1) c-erbB-2 amplification was found in 16 out of 47 cases, the amplificated rate was 34.0%. (2)Significant association was shown between amplification of c-erbB-2 and the depth of tumor invasion.(3) c-erbB-2 amplification was not associated with patients′age, gender, tumor size, location, differentiated type, lymph node metastasis. Conclusion The results suggest that c-erbB-2 amplification play a role in the process of advanced gastric caricinoma and strongly suggest c-erbB-2 amplification is associated with tumor′s invasion. This may provide a new approch for diagnose, therapy, predicting prognosis for gastric carcinoma.
