Curcumin had widely pharmacological effects. But the properties of insolubility, instability in solution, poorly absorption and quickly metabolism made it low bioavailability in vivo. In our study turmeric was made into solid dispersions (turmeric SDs). After that capsules of turmeric SDs and capsules of compounded turmeric SDs (turmeric SDs + piperine) were formed to increase the dissolution, inhibit the metabolism of curcumin through which complex way the bioavailability of curcumin could be increased. The results of basic physico-chemical property study showed solid of turmeric and piperine were stable but the solution degraded under highlight. Turmeric SDs formed by PVP-k30, which ratio to turmeric was 1:2, by spray drying method, could significantly increase the speed and degree of dissolution and made cucumin more stable in solution in vitro. All index of capsules of turmeric SDs and compounded turmeric SDs invested in vitro were corresponding to "Chinese Pharmacopoeia" (2005 Edition). Results of Pharmacokinetics showed relative bioavailability of capsules of turmeric SDs and compounded turmeric SDs were raised to 788.12% and 1019.73%, respectively, indicting two-way of reforming could get the enhancement property in raising bioavailability of curcumin. Results of study on absorption of turmeric SDs and compounded turmeric SDs in vivo showed curcumin could be absorbed in each segment of gastrointestinal tract. Piperine had no influence to the absorption of curcumin in vivo.
