Objective: Blood of human brain tissue is supplied by bilateral carotid and basal artery. There are the high risk sites of aneurysms ,arterial stenosis or obstruction in the arteries. Cranial base tumor always surround these arteries. The aim of therapy is not only remove the tumor but also ensure the blood supply of brain. The high-volume artery bypass is an effective resolution. We establish the high- volume common carotid-external carotid bypass model in canine, and the future study of high-volume carotid bypass model on cadaver, furthermore clinical use. We hope to form a curriculum on clinical training of this operation, and form a platform of mimic operation training for young neurosurgeons majored on this field. Methods: Six dogs were divided into three groups at random. Twelve high-volume common carotid-external carotid bypass operations were established in both sides of six dogs (n=12). Repeat angiography and color Doppler sonography were taken at 1 week (n=4), 4 weeks (n=4), 24 weeks (n=4) after operations. The hemodynamic parameters of grafts were measured at 1 week, 4 weeks, 24 weeks after operations by color Doppler sonography. The grafts were cut off for pathologically at 24 weeks after operations. Results: The high-volume common carotid-external carotid bypass model (n=12) were successfully established in six dogs. At 1 week, 4 weeks, 24 weeks after operations, repeat angiography showed that all grafts were patent, and color Doppler sonography showed that the blood flow quantity of grafts were higherthan 90 ml/min. The intimal of grafts were hyperplasia at 24 weeks afteroperation. Conclusion: the high-volume common carotid-external carotid bypass modelin dog was established, which had similar material, high-volume, similar bloodpressure, smooth operation, high patent rate, comparing with the traditionalmicrosurgery model, provided a better mimic operation training platform.
