Objective: Vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) is a growth factor to be found for the past few years. It can promote vascular endothelial cell cytopoiesis and augment vasopermeability. Tumornecro-sis factor-α(TNF-α) is a important immunotransmitter. It can influence in angiocellular activity and adjust to inflammation of blood vessel. The purpose of reseaching is to observate three aspects. First, to investigate the change of vascular endothelial growth factor and tumornecrosis factor-ain serum with acute cerebral infarction. Second, to study the relation between vascular endothelial growth factor and tumornecrosis factor-αin serum and infarct volume, infarct location, neurologic impairment degree with acute cerebral infarction. Methods: Serum VEGF and TNF-α were determined by ELISA in 55 patients with acute cerebral infarction at 1, 7, 14 day and in 30 healthy controls. Then to compare the level of VEGF and TNF-α with infarct volume, location and nerve function. Results: First, level of VEGF and TNF-α with acute cerebral infarction patients were significantly increased at 1, 7, 14 day than normal controls(P<0.05). Further, They began to raise up at 1 day and get to the peak at 7 day. But they were higher at fourteenth day than normal level. Second, level of VEGF and TNF-a in acute cerebral infarction patients correlated with infarct volume and nerve function. Level of VEGF and TNF-α with acute cerebral infarction patients was significantly increased in a large infarct volume than no large infarct volume (P<0.05). Third, level of VEGF and TNF-α with acute cerebral infarction...
