Objective: To analyze and evaluate the effects of pelvic autonomic nerve preservation(PANP) on curative excision of male patients with advanced rectal cancer. Methods:Thirteen male patients with advanced rectal cancer were performed with Pelvic Autonomic Nerve Preservation and Total Mesorectal Excision (TME)in the Department of Colorectal and Anus Disease ,the First Affiliated Hospital of Guangxi Medical University. The controlled group (Nineteen patients)were performed with TME .The urinary and sexual functions and recurrence rate and 1 year survival rate of the experiment group and the controlled group were retrospectively analyzed by t test orΧ2 test or Fisher's test. Results:The indication of urinary and sexual functions of the experiment group was better than the controlled group(p=0.0197,0.0497,0.0245, 0.0449, all<0.05)except no difference between with the long term urinary function(P=0.5020). No significant difference of the recurrence rate and the one year survival rate was found between the experiment and the controlled group (P=0.4063,0.6650) . Conclusions : The curative excision with PANP for advanced rectal cancer can reduce urinary and sexual function disorder and doesn't increase the local recurrence rate and doesn't decrease the one year survival rate.
