The invasion and metastasis process of hepatocellular carcinoma(HCC) includes a series of steps such as extracelluar matrix(ECM) degradation, cells'migration, and angiogenesis. That the HCC cells'migration in the ECM and breaking base membrane into the vessels are the vital events of the intrahepatic or extrahepatic metastasis of HCC. The invasion and matastasis of HCC is correlated with the ability of migration and movement HCC cells. Some studies have showed that the cortical actin-associated protein(cortactin) involves in the actin cytoskeleton reorganization and cell adhension. Overexpression of cortactin in matastatic HCC cells was often observed. Thus the cortactin gene is involved in HCC metastasis.
