Background:Lumbar disc herniation is a common disease of which pain is waist and leg is the main clinical manifestation ,the rate is 1%~2%.The majority of this affection canbe cured, through non-operation treatment. Traction is the most importance in the non-operation's methods. Differenet traction's methods have different courses. We cure the patients by the gravitational traction and we gained goodresults. Objective:To evaluatethe therapeutic effect of gravitational traction on patient with lumbar disc herniation. And the indications for conservative treatments were determined. Methods:From June,2004 to May,2005, sum up sixty patients from orthopedics dept and rehabilitative dept of the T.C.M hospital of Zhangzhou. The sixty patients diagnosed as having lumbar disc herniation were equally divided into two groups. They were treated with gravitational traction or sustained traction. All the cases were treated for 14 days consecutively. And a comparison was made with respect to therpeatic effect of these two modalities of treatment.Result:Treating group: 4 cases were cured, 16 cases showed considerable improvement, 8 cases improved, 2 cases inefficacy, the total (effective rate was 93.33%).in control group: 5 cases were cured, 15 cases showed, considerable improvement, 10 cases improved, 2 cases inefficacy. the treatment courses of two groups had indifferences (p>0.05). The effect of medical and post-lateral herination was obviously higher than that of foraminal and extra-foraminal herniation.
