Stature Estimation Of Chinese Han Male From Long Bones

Objective Study the estimation of stature for Chinese Han male from complete and fragmentary long bones, according to many stages of region and age in actually of application, raise long the bone reckons accurate rate of the height.Materials and methods The sample was consisted of 219 pairs of Chinese Han adult long bones with known stature from autopsy room,Department of Forensic Medicine,Institute of Forensic Sciences,Beijing.The age range of the sample is 18 to 84 years.The items of measurements are listed in Chinese text of this paper with English transiation.The measurements of the long bones are as follow: whole and partial diagraph length of humerus,radius,ulna,femur,tibia. Combine to take Yangtze River as the boundary to the region to divide the line for the south of Yangtze River and north of Yangtze Rivers;divide the line the age as three stages: small in 30 years old,30 years old ～ 40 years old( include 30 years old), big in 40 years old( include 40 years old). Then use the software of SPSS to draw to scatter of graphs,and build up the regression equations.Results 500 regression equations for stature estimation from long bones for Chinese Han male were obtained. The cofficient of determination (r~2) was between 0.078 and 0.842.Conclusion The body length could be estimated by the long bones. For the same long bone, biggest long, physiology long or full-length accurate was better than the item in the part predict for stature estimation .
