Esophageal cancer (EC) is one of the most common cancers and its incidence and mortality among different countries and different ethnic have great variation. Esophageal cancer has the highest incidence and mortality in China and it threats to people's health seriously, especially in rural areas. Many epidemiological investigations have shown that nitrosamine and nutrition factors are the main cause factors of esophageal cancer.In 1982, Syrjanen found the organizational change of esophageal cancer was similar to the change induced by condyloma in reproductive tract where human papillomavirus was detected so he put forward that the HPV infection may be related to esophageal cancer. Since then, lots of studies on the relation between esophageal cancer and HPV have emerged, but the prevalences of HPV were different appearently even from 0% to 100%.
