In the last 20 years, active oxygen and free radical have become the hot topics in modern life science, and appraisal and selection of natural resources with strong antioxidative activities have become the new trends of biology, medical science and food science and technology.Eucommia Ulmoides Oliv has many wonderful functions, such as anti-free radical, oxidation resistance and decrease blood pressure etc. It has been found that the leaves contain almost the same effective components as the bark. So it was economic significations that antioxidative are extracted from a great deal of leaves of Eucommia Ulmoides Oliv and purified activesIn this paper, extraction and separation of antioxidant actives from the leaves of Eucommia Ulmoides Oliv were reviewed at first. Alcohol-extraction and then resin adsorption method were further studied. Through investigating the effects of extractive solution, extractive time, ratio of solvent to material and extraction times on TAC, the optimum condition are concluded. At the same time, Resin adsorption method was used to isolate and enrich antioxidant actives from the extraction solution. By comparing four different macro-porous resins in separating capacity, X-5 was the best one in separating antioxidant activities. The results suggested that in the condition of the ratio 1:18, a mixed solution containing 20 % (v/v) of ethanol speeded up the solvent-swell of leaves and promoted the natural compounds transferring and increased the TAC (Total Antioxidative Capacity). Experiments showed the extraction rate under ultrasonic wave for twice, 40 min was over 93%. By comparing static and dynamic adsorption performance, macropore adsorptive resin X-5 and optimum eluant 70% ethanol solution, were selected, After adsorption and purification on column, TAC of antioxidative extract of Eucommia Ulmoides Oliv was increased by 4.83 times. Resin X-5 can be used to purify antioxidative actives from abundant...
