Purpose : As two potential stimulants on chondrocyte proliferation and differentiation, Fibroblast growth factor basic (bFGF) and transforming growth factor-β1 ( TGF-β1 ) have been paid much attention in the research of cartilage tissue engineering. Our study emphasis on investigating the effects of these two growth factors ( both single and associated delivery ) on cell proliferation in rabbit articular chondrocytes cultured in vitro. Methods: Rabbit articular chondrocytes from different stage( the 2nd, 4th, 6th and 8th generations )were cultured in vitro, each generation were treated with bFGF(1,5,10 ng/ml), TGF-β1 ( 0.1, 0.5, 1 ng/ml) and the combination of both growth factors at different concentration respectively. Cell proliferation was measured by CellTiter96? AQueousone solution cell proliferation assay. Results: When TGF-β1 or bFGF were used respectively, high-dosage of TGF-β1(1 ng/ml) showed a higher poliferative effect than control and lower-dosage of TGF-β1, as to bFGF , high-dosage (10 ng/ml) at 2th, 4th...
