Objective: Phyllodes tumor of the breast is a rare fibroepithelial neoplasm of the breast with a special biological behavior. At present, because of our insufficient clinical cognition, the managements of them are inappropriate, which infects the prognosis of the patients with phyllodes tumor of the breast, leads to poor life quality and reduced long term survival. Our study on this problem is to have a good recognition of its biological behavior and discuss the possible prognostic factors in phyllodes tumor of the breast. Methods: To analyze retrospectively the clinical data of the patients from Jan, 1995 to Feb, 2006, classify it and make a statistic analysis for the relationship between the histological type and the age, as well as tumor diameter, the time before examination, menopause or not, given birth or not and tumor necrosis or not. Then following up all the patients and making a statistic analysis to find out the relationship between the prognosis and the surgical mode, also and the same factors which affect histological classification. Results: All the 38 patients are female, the average age of onset is 40.3 years (range: 19-71 years). They typically present with a breast mass and the median diameter of the mass is 4.5cm (range: 1.5-18cm). The median time before examination is 6 months (range:5 days-14 years). Surgical excision is the mainstay treatment and some has other adjuvant setting. 36 patients have been followed up, the follow-up rates is 94.7%. Overall, both 5 year and 8 year survival rates are 100%, recurrence rates is...
