Background and Objective:Brain edema is a common pathological change in neurology and other critical conditions, it is the main cause of death and disability, and it is also the main pathophysical change in cerebral diseases, space-occupying diseases in the brain, brain trauma and inflammation that cause neurological disfunction. Mechanism of brain edema has close relationship with damage to blood-brain barrier (BBB) and disfunction of brain cell metabolism. Vasogenic brain edema (VBE) has protein-rich contents and is difficult to be absorbed; it has a long duration and high mortality rate. Its characters include:(1) Edema mainly happens in white matter and astrocytes change the most; (2) Permeability of cerebral capillary increases and BBB is damaged; (3) It is protein-rich edema. It is a very important task in hundreds of years for neurologists to find mechanism and treating methods of VBE.
