Objective: To investigate the association of the 5-HT1A receptor gene C(-1019)G polymorphism with schizophrenia in Chinese Yunnan Province Han population and the influences of the C(-1019)G polymorphism on symptoms and cognitions. Methods: The polymorphism of 5-HT1A receptor promoter were genotyped in 142 schizophrenia cases , 84 controls with PCR methods and RLFP typing. Using the WCST to investigate the cognitive levels of the schizophrenia and controls and using PANSS to investigate symptoms. Then analyzed the association between C(-1019)G polymorphism and schizophrenia. Results: â‘ There was significant association between 5-HT1A receptor promoter gene C(-1019)G polymorphism and schizophrenia in Chinese Yunnan Province Han population (p=0.001). â‘¡C(-1019)G polymorphism has significant influence on negative scale scores (p=0.0l3) of PANSS and the Factor 4 scores of the BPRS(p=0.026). â‘¢There was no association between the polymorphism and the outcomes of WCST.Conclusions: â‘  There was significant association between 5-HT1A receptor promoter gene C(-1019)G polymorphism and schizophrenia in Chinese Yunnan Province Han population.â‘¡The Polymorphism may play a role of the schizophrenia risk factors in positive and negative syndrome aspect.(3)There was no association between the polymorphism and the outcomes of WCST reflects the functions of prefrontal cortex.
