Background: This thesis reviewed recent researching progresses on GastroesophagealReflux Disease (GERD), investigated its syndromes of traditional Chinese medicine, and concentrated them to 6 main types according to basic theories of TCM, and found that these types can cover over 95% of clinical cases. Objective: To discuss a method of standards of syndrome differentiation of TCM, withcertificating the types of GERD from literatures, by summarizing and combining disease with syndrome.Method: We collected all the information of patients, and differentiated them to a certainsyndrome. We tried to study out the diagnostic standards of syndrome differentiation and find out the correlations between the syndrome and gastroscopy.Result: We differentiated the symptoms and signs of 85 clinical cases as the phlegm-Qistagnating and accumulating syndrome 20 cases, the spleen-stomach deficiency syndrome 18 ones, the damp-heat accumulated in spleen-stomach syndrome 18 ones, the heat accumulated in liver-stomach syndrome 14 ones, the discordance of liver and stomach syndrome 10 ones, the stomach-Yin deficiency syndrome 5 ones. The general pathogenesis is stomach-Qi not descending but turbid-Qi belching upward and phlegm-Qi stagnating and accumulating and chest disbenefiting. We found the most frequent manifestation was belching, and only 57 of all patients had typical reflux syndrome. We simply studied out the standard of syndrome differentiation, according to the main symptoms. But we failed to find out the notable relationships between the syndrome and manifestation and accompanies in gastroscopy. Conclusion: It is feasible to dispart GERD into 6 syndromes. Our study showes a pathwayto standardizing the syndrome differentiation of TCM, which might be spread to clinical applications more deeply.
