Objectives: The purpose of this experiment is to investigate the preventing effect of breviscapine on bleomycin induced pulmonary fibrosis in rats and to presume mechanism of breviscapine by studying inflammation degree, collagen fibers and Transforming Growth Factor β1 (TGF-β1). Materials and Methods: Thirty SD rats were divided randomly into fibrosis model group, normal control group and breviscapine group. The model group is treated by intratracheal injection of bleomycin. The normal control group is treated by intratracheal injection of physiological saline. The breviscapine group is treated by intratracheal injection of bleomycin and breviscapine. All rats were executed on the 29th day. To study the effect of breviscapine, we detected indexes which included inflammation degree of lung tissue, nucleus counting, total collagen, type I collagen, TGF-β1 mRNA, TGF-β RⅡ mRNA and Smad4 mRNA. Results:1. The nucleus numbers of model group, normal control group and breviscapine group are: 11496.8, 22243.6 and 13465.5. The nucleus number of breviscapine group is less than that of model group with statistical significance. Breviscapine can inhibit the inflammation in pulmonary fibrosis, therefore inhibit subsequent process of injury and repair.2. The IODs (Integrated optical density) of total collagen of model group,...
