| Objective: To study the factor affecting the recurrence of giant cell tumor of bone. Methods: Data was come from these patients in our hospital between 2002 and 2006, and the data was analyzed by Logistic regression analysis and Chi-Square test to analyze 10 factors, such as age, sex, location of tumor, period of symptoms, operative mode, alkaline phosphates' level, pathological grading and image grading. Results: the period of symptoms, operative mode, bone cement, pathological grading and alkaline phosphates' level is related factors of the recurrence of bone giant cell tumor. The recurrence of the group with bone cement is 9.62 %, it's lower than the group without it ( P<0.05 ). And the group with deactivation during operation has lower recurrence (11.59%) than the group with it (27.45%) (P<0.05). Conclusion: operative mode and pathological grading are important factors for predicting behavior of bone giant cell tumor. The recurrence of intra capsular curettage is obviously higher than local or wide excision. The period of symtoms and alkaline phosphates' level are useful hints for the risk of recurrence. So intra capsular curettage should be avoid to these patients who have high pathological gradingand long period symptoms or high level of alkaline phosphate. But bone cement can decrease the recurrence to these patients who have low risk of it by intra capsular curettage. |
