Objective: To investigate the changes of oxidative stress in the patients with obstructive sleep apnea-hypopnea syndrome using SOD,MDA,TAC,GSH-PXMethods: Consecutive 29 patients of OSAHS were collected ,who were confirmed with OSAHS by PSG monitoring. PSG was performed on all the patients of OSAHS. The patients of OSAHS were classified into three groups(mild OSAHS, AHI 5-20, LSaO2 85-89;moderate OSAHS, AHI21-40, LSaO2 80-84;severe OSAHS, AHI> 40, LSaO2 < 80) according AHI and LSaO2 . 30 healthy volunteers were selected random as control group, who were confirmed with no OSAHS.30 patients of COPD ,who had no respiratory failure, were also selected as control group. On the morning after PSG, peripheral venous blood samples were collected from the fasting subjects .The plasma levels of SOD,MDA ,TAC, GSH-PX were measured by the hospital laboratory according to routine procedure. Results: Compared with the healthy group, OSAHS patients level of SOD, T-AOC were significantly lower (P < 0.05),but the level of MDA significantly higher(P<0.05).Especially the level of T-AOC in medium OSAHS were significantly higher (P<0.05). Compared with the group of COPD, severe OSAHS patients' level of MDA significantly higher(P<0.05),on the contrary the level of SOD were significantly lower. The levels of MDA was correlated significantly with the AHI,LSaO2. Conclusion: 1. The intermittent hypoxia of the OSAHS is a typical hypoxia-reperfusion which may produced ROS. There is an increased oxidative stress and decreased anti-oxidative ability in OSAHS patients. 2.The development of OSAHS is closely related the change of oxidative stress and the anti-oxidative ability. 3. The modality of hypoxia in OSAHS patients is intermittent hypoxia .But the modality is continuous hypoxia in COPD patients. The two different hypoxia can all lead to the change of oxidative stress, but the tendency in the severe OSAHS patients may be significant than in the COPD patients. The difference of hypoxia may result in different level of oxidative stress.
