| Primary hepatic carcinoma (PHC) is a common malignant tumor and TACE isone of the most effective treatments for PHC. Hepatocellular Carcinomapost-chemoembolization Syndrome is one of the side effects of the TACE.Diagnosing and treating disease on the basis of an overall analysis of theillness and the patient's condition, Traditional Chinese medicine hassignificant effects on Hepatocellular Carcinoma post-chemoembolizationSyndrome.Objective: To evaluate the therapeutic effect of Chinese herbal medicineby Qing Re and Shu Gan treatment (one kind of treatment by clearing heat anddispersing the depressed liver according to TCM) in Hepatocellular Carcinomapost—chemoembolization Syndrome. We carried out a prospective random trialby observing 20 primary liver cancer patients treated by the treatment ofChinese herbal medicine with clearing heat and dispersing the depressed liverpost TACE.Methods: 40 primary liver cancer patients post TACE were randomized totwo groups: treatment group and controlled group, 20 patients in each group. The treatment group given Chinese herbal medicine by Qing Re and Shu Gantreatment two days post TACE, combined with some western medicine for symptomrelief when necessary. The controlled group gave western medicine only. Thenwe analyzed the degree and duration of Hepatocellular Carcinomapost—chemoembolization Syndrome, alleviation of clinical symptoms, tumorresponse rate, improvement of KPS, side effects of TACE and hepatic functions.Results:1. There were significant differences between the treatment group and thecontrolled group in Hepatocellular Carcinoma post—chemoembolizationSyndrome such as fever, pain, nausea, vomiting and diarrhea. There were alsosignificant differences in the degree of adverse effect of TACE, such as anemia and leucocytopenia.2. There were significant differences between the treatment group andcontrolled group on the improvement of common conditions. It shows that thetreatment group is better than the controlled group in improvement of commonconditions.3. There were significant differences between the treatment group and thecontrolled group in AST, ALT, GGT of blood serum one week post TACE, but notthe controlled group. It shows that Chinese herbal medicine by Qing Re andShu Gan treatment can relieve the impairment of Hepatic functions post TACE.4. There were significant differences between the treatment group and thecontrolled group in improving clinical symptoms. It shows that the treatmentgroup is better than controlled group in improving clinical symptoms. Conclusions: Chinese herbal medicine by Qing Re and Shu Gan treatment ismore effective, compared with western medicine, on treating HepatocellularCarcinoma post-Chemoembolization Syndrome, also on improvement of commonconditions, Hepatic functions and clinical symptoms. |
